Who can vote

  • 18 or older on voting day ↗
  • Canadian citizen ↗
  • Resident of the municipality, or a property owner/tenant (or spouse of one) there ↗
  • Not otherwise prohibited from voting; your name must be on the voters' list (check via Elections Ontario's Voter Registration Service) ↗↗

Bring ID showing your name and qualifying address. Each municipality publishes its accepted ID list. Check or update your voter registration ↗

Toronto

Peel Region

Peel Regional Chair: Not on the ballot. Peel's chair was previously appointed by regional council (and by the Minister for 2022–2026); Bill 100 lets the Minister appoint the chair after the 2026 election.

York Region

York Regional Chair: Not on the ballot. York's chair was already appointed by the Minister for the 2022–2026 term; Bill 100 continues ministerial appointment after the 2026 election.

Durham Region

Durham Regional Chair: Not on the 2026 ballot. Ontario's Better Regional Governance Act, 2026 (Bill 100) lets the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing appoint the chair after the election; until 2022 Durham voters elected the chair.

Hamilton

Ottawa

Waterloo Region

Waterloo Regional Chair: Not on the 2026 ballot. The chair was historically elected by Waterloo Region voters; under Bill 100 it becomes a provincially appointed position with "strong chair" powers. The province says all eight chairs will be announced at the same time.
